Giggles!

Many of you who know Kylie know how serious she is when she is in a new place. She is very observant and likes to take everything in. Here is a different side of her- many of you haven't seen her giggle like this. I LOVE hearing her giggle...it makes me giggle too!

Mt. Rubidoux

A couple weeks ago we went on a family hike up Mt. Rubidoux. The weather was great and their were many scenic views. We enjoyed spending time together, getting some family exercise, and the fresh air!

A Day at the Park

Last week we went on a family outing to the park. Kylie wasn't so sure about this new adventure...she was very serious...then again, our little cupcake is ALWAYS serious whenever we go somewhere new, sometimes even looks sad. I assure you she's not always so serious...she just likes to assess her new surroundings before she lets loose and decides it's a safe place....

One Year Ago...

One year ago today, my dad (papi) passed away. I was his buddy and he was mine.

Always and forever buddies
My dad was there for me to help me cope through my many broken hearts, to encourage me to work hard, and to help me get my classroom ready every year. Losing my dad was the hardest thing that I have ever had to go through. It still is. My heart still aches to hold him, kiss his cheek, to just sit down next to him.

I am the first of my friends to lose a parent. It is not easy to lose someone you love so much. The pain never really goes away...just fades a little with time. There is never a day that I do not think about him or that my heart doesn't get a pang from that emptiness. Without God in my life, I don't know how I would deal with the hurt. It is too much to bear alone. Thankfully I am also blessed with wonderful family members and friends who brought me dinners, listened to me, and lent me their shoulders to cry on. I can not thank you enough.

My dad is a hero to me. He fought against cancer with all that he had. He tried to hang on for as long as he could. Unfortunately, that awful disease took over and he could not fight anymore. Though cancer took over, it didn't beat him. God mercifully took my dad in His arms where he is no longer suffering. I am confident that my dad has joined the angels to worship our mighty Savior.

If you are familiar with Hillsong United, these lyrics come to my head: "The enemy has been defeated. Death couldn't hold You down. We're gonna lift our voice in victory. We're gonna make Your praises loud. Shout unto God with a voice of triumph. Shout unto God with a voice of praise. Shout unto God with a voice of triumph. We lift Your name up! We lift Your name up!"

I love you Papi. You are my buddy, my hero, my champion.

My mom and dad
Clarissa and my dad (I love their smiles!)

Me and my papi (He looks so handsome!)

Dear friends, if your parents are still here with you, please cherish the time you have with them. They have helped mold us who we are today and have taken care of us. Our families are so special and I pray that your time with them will last for many years to come. We never know when they will be taken from us and I urge you to make the most out of the time you have with them.

5 Months Old!

On the 27th, Kylie turned 5 months old! I haven't blogged each month so I'm a little late. 5 months is a huge milestone for Kylie because there are so many changes going on!

Kylie got her first two bottom teeth this month (early teether!) and has tried solids: rice cereal- which she actually LOVES (Go figure!), bananas- which she HATES (hence the picture below), and sweet potatoes- she's not in love with them, but doesn't hate them either.

She's also found her foot:

AND she actually enjoys the exersaucer (sp?) which she didn't know what to do with before.

(Her lips are shiny...those aren't her teeth)

She's also rolling from front to back and from back to front and crawling...backwards.

She LOVES to take baths and she loves the camera.

That's our little Kylie. We are looking forward to watching her grow and continue hitting those milestones!

Happy Birthday Babe!

Today is my hubby's 29th birthday- he finally caught up to me! Yep, I'm the older one. Last week, Matt and Micah had a man-kend (man weekend). Matt spent the night at Micah's and Nicole spent the night at our house. Matt and Micah went and ate sushi, played video games, went shooting, played pool, and, of course, ate some more. Meanwhile Nicole, Kaitlyn, and I gave the little kiddos baths:

Today, Matt's family and mine came over for a mini surprise party. We had pizza, cake, cupcakes, and ice cream. It was a nice low-key gathering:

Kylie decided to have her own party:)

Going Backwards

Our little girl is moving.....BACKWARDS! It started a few days ago, but it's official now. I placed her on her tummy time mat like this:

Half hour later, without my assistance, she ended up like this:

Halfway under the bed! Pretty soon she'll be crawling!
